Kitty, as she was known to her family and friends, was born on May 20, 1935 in St. Petersburg, Florida, to Robert Powell Meredith and Katherine Ray Cygon Meredith. She lived mostly in Florida during her young life, graduating from St. Petersburg High School in 1952.
She married Don McLamb in 1961 at First Baptist Church of Indialantic, where they have remained members. They built a wonderful life in Indialantic, Florida raising their six children. Kitty was a kind, loving wife, mother and friend. She loved traveling. She and Don made many trips around the world. Kitty played the role of tour guide for her children, taking them on trips through Europe, Asia, and Central America, always reminding them that “life is an adventure”! She was a published artist, model/actress, an avid genealogist, amateur archeologist, and girl scout leader. She loved shopping, parties, jewelry, and was a member of the Canaveral Mineral and Gem Society enjoying making and repairing jewelry.
Kitty played an integral role in the birth of many children in Brevard County. After her last children were born (the twins), she attended and graduated from Brevard Community College, earning an R.N. degree. She loved babies and was blessed to work for Brevard Hospital/Holmes Regional Medical Center in the nursery and labor & delivery units. She loved her job and eventually became the Head Nurse of the newborn nursery and served in that role for 10 years. She retired from the hospital to further her education, becoming a neonatal nurse practitioner. Her family was so proud of her! Don’s job offered them the opportunity to move several times (still keeping their home in Indialantic). They lived on Andros Island, Bahamas for 5 years where Kitty was able to serve as a nurse in the naval infirmary at AUTEC naval base. They moved to Annapolis, Maryland for 3 years, giving Don the opportunity to work at the Office of Naval Intelligence and Kitty the chance to spend many happy days in their home on the Chesapeake Bay. Following their stay in Maryland they moved to Livermore California where Don worked at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and they enjoyed 3 years traveling the West. Returning to Florida, Don’s work took them to West Palm Beach, where they enjoyed their condominium on the Intracoastal Waterway. Finally, back in Indialantic to their forever home, they continued to enjoy life, family, friends and their combined interest in making jewelry.
Kitty is survived by her husband of 63 years, Don; her children: Rick (Gail) Tindal, Terrie (Bryan) Ambrosio, Kathy (Tom) Odom, Donna (Doug) Cotton, Bob (Teresa) McLamb, Bill (Monique) McLamb; her brother: Bob Meredith; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
A private family graveside service will be conducted at Florida Memorial Gardens.
The family expresses special thanks to St. Francis Reflections Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to them in Kitty’s memory.
