

Liselotte (Lilo) Vanaselja passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, surrounded by her family. Lilo was born Liselotte Lang in Nuremburg, Germany on April 26, 1930, to Getrud and Friedrich Lang. It was there that she met the love of her life, Elmar Vanaselja. They wed January 8, 1949 and spent the next 72 years together. They immigrated to the United States and raised their three children: Elmar Jr., Heidi, and Gordon in Norwalk, Connecticut. After retiring from Perkin- Elmer Corporation, they moved to Melbourne, Florida where Lilo was active in the German American Club. She was an avid collector of Hummel figurines and all things German. Her cakes, affectionately referred to as “Oma cakes “were a favorite of her 3 children and 8 grandchildren.
Besides being an accomplished baker and cook, Lilo enjoyed needlepoint creating over created over 20 canvases that adorn the walls of her home. She also crocheted her family blankets that will always keep her memory in their hearts. Those who were fortunate to know her well were also recipients of texts and Facebook posts from her. Not afraid of new technology, Lilo embraced the Internet and her Iphone. She loved shopping and a good bargain, often buying Christmas gifts in July. Christmas was her favorite holiday. She hosted the family on Christmas Eve and had a German Christmas with all her favorite foods and traditions. Music was always a joy to her. She played organ and loved listening to all types of music.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her sister, Heidi, and her brother, Horst.
To say Lilo will be missed, is an understatement. All who survive will miss her every day especially Elmar, her husband of 72 years; Her children and their spouses, Elmar and Bernie Vanaselja of Oceanside CA, Gordon and Donna Vanaselja and Heidi Carlton of Melbourne. Those who called her Oma and their significant others; Derek and Sandra, Daniel, Michael and Rae, Kayla and Stephen, Eric, James, Jenny and Ryan, and Emily and her great grandchildren; Julian, Ava, and Heidi Carlton.
She will be laid to rest on July 7, 2021, at Florida Memorial Gardens, Rockledge, FL. There will be a brief visitation for friends wishing to say goodbye at 10:30 AM. A graveside service will follow.
Reception will be at the home of Gordon and Donna Vanaselja in Viera.
