

Our beloved Mother, and Wife joined her Creator on Wednesday, January 26, 2011. She died at home peacefully surrounded by her family. Linda Louise Sottile Hammond Lonergan was born in Miami, Florida on June 29, 1938 to James and Ethel Hooks Sottile.
She is survived by her husband, John P. Lonergan; brother, John Hooks Sottile (Ann); her eight children, Maria Theresa (Bill), Linda Jane (Charlie), Frank Raymond (Ellen), Harriet Suzanne (Robert), Elizabeth Ann (Dave), Nathan Alexander, John Christian and Ethel Hooks Sottile (Elena). Linda is also survived by three step-children, Rose Marie (Mike), Patrick (Trisha), Katy (David); fourteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and her cousin, Patricia.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ethel Sottile; brother, James Sottile III; and sisters, Suzanne Guanci and Jean Walsh.
Linda grew up in Coral Gables, Florida, attended school at St. Theresa and graduated in 1956. After graduation, Linda went to Georgetown University to study nursing. While at Georgetown, Linda became a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. Linda left nursing school to marry Frank Raymond Hammond and raise eight children.
Linda was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, various historical organizations, and former member of the Brevard Junior Women's League.
Linda lived in Indian Harbor Beach for over 46 years where she had many wonderful friends whom she loved dearly. Linda was very active at her beloved church, Holy Name of Jesus Church where all her children went to school. At HNJ, Linda served in various capacities including the Religious Education Library at the School and the School Bus committee. She is a former president of the HNJ Women's Club and volunteered for Special Church Outings.
Linda was a wonderful homemaker, she looked to cook, sew, knit and play bridge. Her true passion was doing things for those she loved. She was deeply loved by all who knew her. Linda was a devoted wife, mother and friend and will be dearly missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to Holy Name of Jesus St. Vincent de Paul Society.
A viewing and service will be held at Florida Memorial Funeral Home, 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Thursday, January 27. A mass of atonement will be held at Holy Name of Jesus Church at 10:30 am on Friday, January 28. A reception will be held at Holy Name of Jesus in the hall following the mass. A private burial will follow the reception.
