

In that time, she escaped from Nazi occupied Paris with her family and came to New York City at the age of 15 after hiding in the south of France for five years. The Kaplan family got on the last boat out of France through Casablanca in 1942.
Monique graduated from Barnard College at Columbia with a Master’s degree in Education and worked in the family business as a professional fur designer. She is predeceased by her parents, Suzanne and Georges Kaplan and her two siblings, Maurice Kaplan and Jacques Kaplan. She is survived by her husband of 74 years, Irwin Winsten, her sister Nicole Alenick, her three children, Michele Campbell, Danielle and husband Gary Zabel, Keith and wife Marlene Winsten and five grandchildren; Lauren Campbell and husband Alaa Ayyoub, Ian Campbell and wife Aurelia Rus, Molly Winsten, George Winsten and wife Fatima Ramis, Lily Winsten and countless nieces and nephews.
Monique was a woman of many talents including sewing, sculpting, gardening, reading and raising a beautiful loving family. Although inherently shy, she greeted everyone with a warm smile. She will be missed by all she met.
A private service was held for the family on October 9th. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Brevard Zoo
