

Otis moved to Brevard County in 1969. He was a man of many accomplishments. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War. He was in one of the unit’s top mathematicians where he was sent to California for special training. He bailed out of an airplane over enemy territory in the Korean War. He was a man of intelligence and graduated at the top of his class from The University of Florida in Electrical Engineering. He was a proud alumnus and even had a tattoo of Albert the alligator on his calf which he got for his 72nd birthday. He worked as an engineer for the Harris Corporation formerly known as Radiation within the government systems division until 1981. During his time being employed by Harris Corporation, he was stationed in Germany with his family for 18 months. He was instrumental in inventing the first supercomputer called the HOP 9,000. HOP standing for Harris Otis Plato.
He then started his own computer business, Computer Specialties Incorporated, that was the largest of its kind on the East Coast of Florida. He also introduced computers to the school system of Brevard County. He enjoyed being an influential leader to the youth of the community. He was a one-man force with NASA consulting, teaching, and integrating of computer networking.
Otis was jovial, innovative and he holds a patent for a hammer he designed. He was a farm boy and loved to garden. He raised a few cows and took a barn that was originally used for raising 1,500 rabbits at one time and converted it into a square dance hall where he was the caller, inspiring people to come and enjoy themselves. Otis found happiness and practiced leadership through being an ordained minister. He held bible studies at home for many years. He counseled troubled youth at the JDC, leading many to Christ. Otis was a motorcycle enthusiast; he rode for years. He even rode to Ohio and back multiple times.
Otis retired at the young age of 52. He spent the years after retiring traveling the United States in an RV with his wife, Linda. Otis and Linda met on a blind date and were married six weeks later, they find themselves just shy of their 58th wedding anniversary by six weeks. They met many friends during their travels. He was a member of The Challengers RV Club. He found great joy in playing the piano at his local church, Calvary Baptist Church of Grant, FL. He played at least 6 different musical instruments, all self-taught which include the piano, trumpet, guitar, harmonica, accordion, and harpsichord. Additionally, Otis was a proud republican.
Otis was a man of integrity best learned and instilled through his father. He brought his sense of humor to every situation, was loving, kind and strong willed.
Otis is preceded in death by his daughter Kerri Ruth, parents Dallas and Earnest Lutz, and beloved siblings Mark (Betty), Earnest (Grace), Thomas and Dallas.
Otis is survived and admired by many family members, his wife, Linda Lutz, son Kenny (Joannie) Michaels, daughter Katrina (Michael) Sanchez, grandchildren Melissa and Elizabeth Lutz, Kayla (Nathan) Beal, Sarah (Jonathan) Halfhide, Marina Sanchez; great-grandchildren, Zachary Lutz, Holden, Branson, Easton and Rilynn Beal; siblings Rosemary (Leroy) Vandegrift, Patricia Miller, Malinda (Richard) Phillips; sisters-in-law Patricia Lutz, Heidi Lutz and extended family who loved him dearly.
While Otis has gone to rest in the arms of Jesus, his legacy here on earth will live on through his family and the many lives he has touched over the years.
Services will be held June 28, 2019 at 11:00AM with the viewing and visitation at 10:00AM, Florida Memorial Gardens, 5950 South U.S. Hwy. 1, Rockledge, FL. Reception to follow on site.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting a donation be made in his memory to Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 5640 Old Dixie Highway, Grant, FL 32949.
