Ralph D. DiStefano (Pop), born in Trenton, NJ on July 11, 1921, passed away peacefully on Good Friday, April 22, 2011 at the age of 89.
Pop lived during the depression and he shared many stories of that time of his life. It taught him the importance of hard work and survival. A message that resonated throughout his life.
In 1969, he moved his wife from New Jersey to Palm Bay to begin work at Radiation Corporation, known today as Harris Corporation. He found his calling in the field of Chemical Engineering.
Pop had a unique talent, special skill, and knowledge in Electroforming Complex Structures for High Frequency Electronic Circuits and Antennas. He became a Supervisor of the Chem Lab at Government Systems Sector at Harris. It did not take long for his peers to realize that Pop had many "clever" tricks that allowed him to serve others at Harris and successfully fulfill his program requirements. During his career he received six patent awards. After his retirement in 1992, he remained available for consulting work.
Pop was active during retirement; loved watching sports (especially the Yankees); enjoyed conservative investing in the stock market; and spent time with his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Rita; son-in- law, Frank Petroni; grandsons, David Petroni and wife, Kim, Mark Petroni and wife, Ivette; six great-grandchildren, Evan, Alexander, Noah, Nathanael, Shaeli, and Benjamin; sister, Jenny and several nieces and nephews. Pop was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Marie; his sister, Mary; and his brother, Tony.
We will really miss you, Pop, and we will remember you for your wonderful smile, constant love, and support in all our lives. We love you very much. Rest in Peace.
Friends and family are invited to attend a viewing on Wednesday, April 27, from 1 - 3 pm followed by service and interment at 3:30 at Florida Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home in Rockledge, FL.
