Shirley Houts, 74, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at the Hospice Center in Wuesthoff Hospital. Shirley born in Chattanooga, Tennessee came to Brevard County in 1961. She retired as an Assistant Manager for J.D. Weekly Lumber Company. Upon retirement, she and her husband Jack traveled across the country in their motorhome. Shirley actively held dual memberships with Moose Lodges in South Carolina (#1552) and Florida (#1544). She was a member of the Calvary Chapel of Merritt Island and a former member of the Merritt Island Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by; son, Jack Houts (Kristy) of Port St. John; grandchildren, Jessica Houts of Port St. John, and Walter Satterfield of Titusville; sister-in-laws, Ruth Houts and Gracy Cooper of Merritt Island; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years Jack Houts; sister, Dorothy Plank; brothers, Buell, Edwin and Larry Siniard. A memorial service will be held at Florida Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Rockledge, on Saturday, February 27th at 2:00pm with internment to follow at Florida Memorial Gardens.
