Born in 1926 in Lebanon, Ohio, Dr. White had a distinguished career in the military and with NASA. One of the original space pioneers, his early work involved the design of life support systems for manned space flight, the selection of the Mercury astronauts, the Gemini, Apollo and Skylab manned orbiting laboratory. He was president of both the Aerospace Medical Association and the International Academy of Aviation and Space Medicine. Upon retiring from the military, he continued to work in life sciences until he retired as the senior scientist, group manager medical operations and human research at The Bionetics Corporation, Kennedy Space Center, FL.
Dr. White, a voracious reader and an avid RV-er (with Rolling Sams and Seaside Winnies), is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Helene, sons Steve (Miriam), Stanley (Belinda), Scott (Vicque), Stuart (Julia), and daughter Sandy Rector (Clark), 12 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
