He was born on January 17, 1942 to John and Madeline Green in New York. He spent his childhood growing up in Lindenhurst, NY. He joined the Navy in 1960 and served for almost 4 years. He re-enlisted and served again from 1964 to 1968, serving in Vietnam. After the service, Tom was a switchman for New York Telephone Company (nka Verizon), where he retired after 30 years in December of 1999 and moved to Melbourne, FL with his wife of 39 years, Joyce.
Tom is predeceased by his parents, Madeline and John, and his two brothers, Gerrard “Bobby” Green (Catherine) and John Green (Lucille). He leaves behind five adult children: Kathleen Huffman, Karin Weiler (Adam), Buc (SCW) Michael Farley (Christie), Elaine Miller-Romero (Will), and Mary Kuypers (Brad). Tom and Joyce adored their 13 grandchildren: Ryan, Natalie, Kaitlyn, Olivia, Lauren, Logan, Isabella, Gavin, Hailey, Krista, Cameron, Shayla and Juliana (predeceased).
Tom and Joyce are so proud of their children and grandchildren’s accomplishments and were always present at their special events.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 81 and a Life Member of VFW Post 8191 in Melbourne.
Tom and Joyce enjoyed cruising to the Caribbean, Hawaii and Alaska. He had a quick, witty sense of humor, bringing wonderful fun and laughter to his family and friends. He loved to celebrate his Irish heritage by marching in the St. Patrick’s Day parade in NYC and watching the Melbourne parades with Joyce, Jackie (sister-in-law) and friend Marie. He also enjoyed his sailboat and his daily ritual of completing the day’s Suduko.
Arrangements are being made by Florida Memorial in Rockledge, FL. A Celebration of Life will be at the VFW Sunday, January 15, 2017 at 2:00pm and the burial will be at the Cape Canaveral National Veterans Cemetery in Mims, FL on Monday, January 16, 2017 at 9:30am.
