

She was born May 10, 1922 in Broadwater, NE, to John and Bertha Adams, and had one brother, Harlan Adams. After graduation from Broadwater High School, Veralynn taught 4 years before going to college. The first year she was in a one-room, all-grade school where she would ride her horse to school every day. She attended Denver University and then graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1947 with a degree in Elementary Education. She began teaching kindergarten in the Panama Canal Zone and there met William (Bill) Edwards, a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. They married in July 1948 and went on to have 3 children, Lynn, Craig, and Bruce. After Bill’s career in the Air Force, the family settled in Melbourne FL and Bill and Veralynn expanded their orchid growing hobby into an orchid business and later a tropical plant and dish garden nursery.
Veralynn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. For years she was active in many capacities at Palmdale Presbyterian Church, was an avid knitter and crafter, loved to read, and work crossword puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, son Craig and brother Harlan. She is survived by her daughter Lynn Kilgard (Frank) of Valdosta, GA; son Bruce Edwards (Chong) of Melbourne, FL; granddaughter Amy Kilgard (Keith Nainby) of Oakland, CA; granddaughter May Fleming (Charles) of Cocoa, FL; grandson Roy Kilgard (Amy Myerson) of West Hartford, CT; grandson Ben Edwards of Portland, OR; granddaughter Angela Edwards of Hollywood, FL; and great granddaughter Tabetha Kilgard of West Hartford, CT.
A private funeral was held May 8, 2020 at Florida Memorial Gardens and a Celebration of Veralynn’s life will be held at a future date.
