Zachary O’Shea Johnson of Rockledge, Florida passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of his family. His journey began on May 7, 1942, in Orange Hill, Westmoreland, Jamaica, where he was born to Jacob and Elma Johnson. One of nine siblings and the second-to-last son, Zachary learned early the enduring values of faith, perseverance, and community—principles that guided his life and work.
As a young man, Zachary’s curiosity and calling led him through Mount Airey Primary School and Revival Catholic School, and ultimately to Wesleyan Methodist Bible College, where he earned a degree in theology. His pursuit of knowledge never waned. After settling in Canada, he continued his theological studies at Dallas International Theological Seminary, where he earned a doctorate in theology, reflecting both his intellectual rigor and deep commitment to ministry.
Zachary lived a life firmly rooted in service. In Jamaica, he devoted himself to evangelistic work and served as an interim pastor at Wesleyan Methodist Church, preaching with passion and conviction. In 1969, he made the bold decision to relocate to Toronto, Canada, embracing a new chapter while remaining steadfast in his calling.
A preacher at heart, Zachary never missed an opportunity to share the Gospel. This passion led him to found Full Gospel Open Door Assembly and Agape Ministries in Toronto, Canada. He never met a stranger—only friends he had yet to know. With a warm handshake and an inviting smile, he built connections wherever he went, mentoring countless young people and serving as a father figure to many.
In December 1973, Zachary married the love of his life, Mavis Almena Kerr, in Toronto, Canada. Together, they built a life grounded in faith and love, raising two daughters, Tamay and Ianessa, who remained a constant source of pride and joy. Later in 1991, Zachary moved with his family to Lakeland Florida, where he continued his ministry at The Berean Church. There, he remained committed to teaching, preaching, and serving, extending his lifelong mission of faith and community to a new congregation.
Family was at the heart of Zachary’s life. He cherished time spent with his siblings and extended family, filling gatherings with laughter, spirited debate, music, and dancing. Few things, however, ignited his competitive spirit like a game of dominoes—except perhaps Monopoly, where he famously showed no mercy to his children and grandchildren. Ambitious and fiercely competitive, he played to win and did so unapologetically.
Beyond the pulpit, Zachary was widely known for his magnetic personality and unmistakable charisma. A natural salesman, he could sell nearly anything—designer eyewear, high-end stereo systems, sharp men’s suits complete with accessories, and even cars. He had an eye for quality, a vision for lifestyle, and a genuine love for building relationships. Whether in business or ministry, people were naturally drawn to him.
Zachary leaves behind a powerful legacy of faith, family, and friendship. He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Mavis Johnson; his daughters, Tamay Montaque (Johnson) and Ianessa Humbert (Johnson); his grandchildren, Jazmin Johnson, Titus Humbert, and Nigel Humbert; his siblings, Dorothea Daley (Johnson) and Baldwin Johnson; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and his cherished church family.
His life stands as a testament to service, connection, and unwavering faith—a legacy that will continue to live on through all those he touched.
