I was searching for Mark's office telephone number as he performed a surgery back in 1997. My daughter Angelique was at Holton-Arms with your girls. I am so sorry to hear about his passing. Please know that your husband was the most caring and skillful plastic surgeon I have ever met. He cared for his patients deeply and treated them like it was his own family. I was searching for Dr. Mausner because he performed plastic surgery on me many years ago and he was such an awesome doctor that I wanted to find him to do another procedure. I am heartbroken to hear of his passing. My prayers to his family.

Although I knew that Mark passed away in 2011, I did not add an appropriate tribute to him in these pages. Hopefully his family will review his Guest Book again as the fifth anniversary of his passing approaches. I was an executive at Shady Grove Hospital and Mark served on several of my medical staff committees. I could always count on him to add valuable insights to our various projects. His sense of humor kept everyone smiling. I miss him!

Sorry I didn't know sooner. Dr. Mausner left such an impression on me 25 years ago that I went searching for him again. When I became a nurse, after he did surgery on me, I appreciated him even more. I always assumed I would see him later in life. Just heartbroken, he was a very kind man.

Mark was a childhood classmate, so kind, funny and smart.  His time on earth all too brief.  I mourn the man who left so many loved ones, their loss can never be replaced  He lives in my heart thoughts and prayers forever as a beautiful human being,  unchanged as a boy and will remain forever etched in my mind as unique. He touched so many lives with love and openness of heart, compassion and brilliant mind. Very few were as blessed with his many gifts of grace, warmth and love,  My heart goes out to his family and friends who will miss his laugh and friendship so rare.  I am stunned, most sincere condolences.

He was my very first plastic surgeon. I was injured in an accident when I was 10 years old. Truly, the kindest Doctor I have ever had. I will never forget him. Heaven has an angel that's for sure.

Marco è entrato nel mio cuore da quando l'ho conosciuto come studente all'Università di Palermo dove io lavoravo, ed abbiamo subito simpatizzato. L'ho seguito fino alla Laurea aiutandolo come si può aiutare un fratello. Lui per questo mio modo di fare aveva grande affetto per me. Ad aprile 2008 è venuto a Palermo ed abbiamo trascorso insieme alla Sua Karen ed io insieme a mia moglie una settimana in giro per la Sicilia e Lui era felice di rivedere i posti dove era stato e lo ero anch'io. Ora non riesco a credere nonostante sia trascorso quasi un anno di non avere più quel fratello che avevo all'altro lato dell'Oceano.

I am totally shocked by this news... have no idea!  He was a fantastic MD and he was so caring to his patience. My thoughts and prays are with his family!  He truly is missed...

I was a patient of Dr. Mausner's, and I only now (February 2012) learned of his tragic passing.  I saw him every other year, and I was always inspired by his positive attitude, his great memory, and his devotion to his wife and daughters.  We traded stories about our families; my husband was seriously ill, and he remembered every detail.  I feel like I have lost a family member, too -- please accept my heartfelt sympathy and condolences on your terrible loss.

I was very saddened to just discover that Dr Mark passed away in October. I was a patient of his in 2010.. and the surgery that he performed on me changed my life. Rest in Peace Doctor M. You will be missed.

I woke up this morning and thought about him - googled and found this information.  He was a wonderful doctor that cared for all of his patience. I hadn't seen him since 1994 but he was often thought of because of his kindness.

I learned of Dr. Mausner's sickness in February of this year when I was at SGH for BC-surgery, and the news shocked and saddened me.  Yesterday I learned of his passing from my BC-surgeon, Alan Kravitz, to whom Dr. Mausner referred me back in 2002.  I became a patient of Dr. Mausner's in 1998, and felt an immediate comfort-level connection with him.  He had a wonderful personality and disposition, always smiling and upbeat, and also a wonderful sense of humor - we had some great laughs.  I will cherish this memory of him always with a smile.  May God bless and keep him, and bring comfort to his precious family and friends, knowing that he touched so many lives and helped to improve the lives of so many patients, while living and enjoying his own precious life to the fullest every day!   ~Susan Quinn

My wife Janet and I are very sorry to hear of Dr. Mausner's passing. His sense of humor coupled with the confidence he instilled in his abilities made us feel comfortable with his work. He kept in touch after my wife's surgery and even attended an event we put on. He will be missed, and we extend our condolences to his family.

Dr, Mausner and his wonderful family took absolute superior care of our 3year old daughter to remove her facial angiofibromas. We were referred from Cinci Childrens. She had subsequent derm.care in Cleveland. Wish we had Dr. Mausner again- his skills are unmatched and bedside manner touch your heart and warm your soul. What a gift God had given us through this skilled surgeon and beautiful person. Our loss is heavens gain. With heart felt sympathy to his caring wife and family.You remain in our prayers-

Dr. Mausner operated on my face after a dog bite when I was 11 years old. He was truly a special doctor and we've stayed in touch throughout all these years (I'm now 34). Mark was a man who loved life. He told me about his travels with Karen in search of wonderful food and wine and we shared lots of good stories, both in his office and over dinner. He was a passionate father who was always at the girls' school events, from the time they were little. His smile is my strongest memory.

I was struggling for the right words to say here that I didn't already convey in a private message or otherwise when I first heard this news. 
I remember meeting Mark for the first time in NY at a conference in 2003. His passion for TSC was so very easy to see. 

Earlier this year, I approached Mark about putting some of his experiences online for his physician colleagues to learn from. 

We worked on an article for Medscape from WebMD and I was very happy to see Mark's enthusiasm & willingness to partner with me on this despite his hectic schedule & me having to take a few extra days to deal with some health issues of my own.  

In spite of all that, on the phone he was always concerned with me & whether there was anything he could do to help my situation & also to make his submission more meaningful & impactful. 

Yet, I wasn't just a woman, friend, & advocate from the TSC community - I was an editor - an equal on this project. This was something I held dear because I want to be seen first as a person, not just someone with chronic illness.  

I learned so much from him during this short time on this project & was very glad we had the opportunity to work together. 

His love for his family was truly evident & I could relate with his feeling of living life to fullest extent even when facing a dire prognosis. 

God Bless him, we are all a bit better people for having had Mark in our lives, even if it was too brief.

I thank his family for being equally committed to his passions & for sharing him - I'm sure from time to time, it did require some sacrifices on their part, but it did not go unnoticed and was sincerely appreciated by all of us lucky enough to know him.

May all be comforted in knowing that Mark had such a positive impact on so many lives.

I had a huge soft spot in my heart for Dr. Mausner from the moment I heard him speak back at the first Tuberous Sclerosis Family Conference in DC.  I knew that when and if it came time for my son, Hayden to need treatment for his angiofibroma's that Dr. Mausner would be the man for the job!  He was a pioneer in the treatment of this particularly cruel feature of TS.  Hayden had two different treatments with Dr. M and both times he and his wife Karen made us feel like family.  The care they both gave us was extraordinary!  He and Karen both came into the office on a weekend to facilitate getting our pre-op paper work filled out.  The day after the surgery he came to our hotel to check on Hayden to see that everything looked OK and give us the thumbs up to travel.  I'm eternally grateful for his skill as a surgeon, but most especially for his caring and compassionate heart.  He gave so freely of his time and skill and touched the lives of so many TS families.  Our deepest sympathies for your loss Karen.  Heaven surely has another angel tonight.  RIP Dr. Mausner.

I never personally met Dr. Mausner but as the parent of a child with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex, I have read of his dedication and commitment to helping those with TSC.  His pioneering efforts are legendary and he will live on in the hearts of many who so greatly appreciated his compassion and empathy.

I am so deeply sorry to hear this sad news. I knew Mark when he was studying medicine in Palermo. I remember a person who was always smiling, always so positive and always ready to lend a helping hand. It was a pleasure and honout to have known him and to read about what he had achieved. His family are in my prayers.

I was so sorry to hear this news.  My daughter was one of Mark's TSC patients and he was so sensitive and interested in her and all his TSC patients.  He will be truly missed!

I was so sad to hear about Mark.  I knew him as a gifted surgeon and devoted father.  As Kori's teacher, I will always remember Mark's devotion to his children. I couldn't start this holiday without extending my heartfelt condolences for your loss of Mark.  He was a good man, husband and father, and a wonderful son and brother. Dr. Mausner gave meaning to the adjective "full of life".  His passion for living, for his family and his work was inspiring. His humor, his smile and joyous demeanor was contagious.  His selflessness and will to help others, his true love for people and his incredible warmth made anyone love him - whether a patient, a casual acquaintance or a friend, Mark made you feel good, loved and he instilled a great sense of trust. We came all the way from Key Biscayne, FL to have Dr. M treat Sophia for her facial lesions due to TSC. Dr. M treatedy daughter & me with such dignity and respect doing all that he could do to cosmetically help her. He believed that by helping us he could give Sophia some normalcy in her life.  He treated Sophia with such love and compassion. 

Losing Dr. M is a great tragedy for us all.  I cannot express how very sorry I am for your loss.  Please know that we felt so privileged to have him participate in our daughter's medical care.  We will truly miss him, as will the entire TSC community.

Dr Mausner treated my daughter, Haley, three times for facial angiobibromas associated with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex.  We flew all the way from Denver each time.  We did this because he possessed a passion for this little unheard of disease like no other human being I had ever met.  He loved my daughter.....even though she couldn't speak and even though her own brain was riddled with tubers (causing her to have horrible daily seizures and profound autism).  He just loved her and doing everything he could to make her life more "normal".
My deepest sympathy to your family.  He will be sorely missed. This is a tremendous loss.  There is nothing more to say than that.
