Mildred Isen

Mildred Isen, age 97, passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 3:33 a.m. (EDT) at Manor Care Nursing Home in Bethesda, MD. Born Mildred Kurland on February 19, 1914, the eighth of 11 children of Russian immigrants, Ellis and Sarah Kurland of Baltimore, MD, she was a life-long care giver. Mildred received her diploma as a professional Registered Nurse from The Sinai Hospital School of Nursing in 1934, and was a practicing RN until she became the beloved wife of David Robert Isen of Washington, DC in August, 1937. She supported her husband in his success as a realtor and builder until his passing in 1985.

Mildred was the loving and devoted mother of Harold Isen, Charles Isen and Kenneth Isen; and the kind and caring mother-in-law of Anita Isen, Gail Isen and Beth Isen. She delighted in her grandchildren, Stecia Saltzman, David Isen, Deborah Isen and Zachary Isen; and her great-grandchildren, Ella, Siena and Harrison Saltzman.

Like her mother, Sarah Kurland, Mildred was a beautiful woman with a generous soul. Her life was about loving and contributing to others with understanding, humility, and compassion which she expressed in her various roles as daughter, sister, nurse, wife, mother, and friend. She was a gift of Grace to everyone whom she touched.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Sunday, June 26, 2011 at Danzansky- Goldberg Memorial Chapel, 1170 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD 20852, followed by graveside services at King David Memorial Gardens, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042.

Shiva will be held at the home of Kenneth and Beth Isen, with Minyan Services at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 26 and Monday, June 27.
