Ralph Herbert Smuckler, 86, retired Dean of International Programs at Michigan State University, died at his home in Washington, DC on November 15. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Lillian, daughter Sandy Harris and family, (Barry Harris, Stevie, Amy and David Shellard), as well as son Dr. Harold Smuckler and family (Dr. Naomi Sato, Nathan, Jacob and Megan, and Benjamin), as well as daughter-in-law Suzy Smuckler and family (Ellie and Todd Fierman, Drew and Brody, Rob Smuckler and Larry Sullivan). He was predeceased by his son Gary Smuckler. He is also survived by his sister Dr. Elaine Engel. Dr. Smuckler was a combat veteran in France and awarded the bronze star.
The funeral will be held at Washington Hebrew Congregation at Wisconsin and Macomb St, NW on Sunday, November 18 at 1:30PM. Contributions may be made to “Gary’s Home” through GCSF at 3907 Laro Court, Fairfax, VA 22031.
