

In 1953, while still in high school, he joined the USNR but decided he did not like what the Navy had to offer and enlisted in the USAF on October 4, 1954. While in the USAF he began college through the USAF off-duty education program. In 1968, he was accepted to the Operation Bootstrap program where he completed his degree in secondary education. In May 1969, he attended OTS graduating as a 2nd Lt. in August 1969. He retired as a Captain in September 1979. After his retirement from the USAF, he was a self-employed Private Investigator and Insurance Adjuster. In 1996, he began working as a contract Special Investigator for the US Customs Agency. He was later credentialed, as a Special Investigator, by the INS, DEA, DSS, CBP, ICE, USCIS, and the FBI. In August 2013, he finally retired.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Arelene; daughter, Diana Head (Phil), granddaughter, Alexis Crabtree (Eric); great-grandson, Hunter Crabtree; brother, Stephen Matthew (Corina); nieces, Shannon Dugan (Dominic), Julia Varner (Timothy); and nephews, Marcus Matthew, Clarence Simpson (Cierra) and Caleb Simpson.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 from 5 until 7pm in Rollins Funeral Home. Private Military Honors will be presented on Thursday. Burial will be at Fayetteville National Cemetery at a later date.
