JD was a plumber, electrician and boiler worker. He owned Stokes Plumbing and Electric in Rogers for over 40 years. He was an avid outdoorsman; he loved fishing for trout at Roaring River State Park, hunting for deer in Cass, Arkansas, and had a plentiful garden each year. He was also devoted to his family and dearly loved his wife, children, and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, James Dudley Stokes; and son-in-law, Douglas Petree.
Survived by wife of 72 years, Virginia (Schopp) Stokes of Rogers; daughter, Linda Petree of Goodman, Missouri; granddaughters, Doddie Bond (Jody) of Anderson, Missouri and Misty Sutherland of Rogers, Arkansas; 4 great-grandchildren, Austin (Kaylie), Triston (Tia), Ashton, and Kinlee; and 2 great-great-grandchildren, Torin and Atreus.
Family will receive visitors starting at 10am. Services will begin at 11am in Sunnyside Baptist Church, Rogers. Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Avoca.
