
Mr. Mathis was born in Rome on October 30, 1975, the son of Katherine Holcomb Mathis Townes and the late Jeff Copeland Mathis, Jr. Mr. Mathis was a graduate of Pepperell High School and was presently a student at Georgia Northwestern Technical College.
Mr. Mathis was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Afghanistan, Iraq and Korea. He held a Communications Officers Certificate, and served with the 310th Chemical Division, Biochemical Company, specializing in biological warfare. He was a member of the New Canaan Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Alexander Cain Mathis, Rome; his mother and step-father, Katherine M. Townes and Allen Townes, Rome; three brothers, Jeff Copeland Mathis, III, and his wife, Allana, Rome, Richard Anderson Mathis, and his wife, Tina, Rome, and Robert Daniel Mathis, and his wife, Samantha, Rome; two sisters, Andrea Mathis, Rome, and Dorothy Miller, Rome; one step-brother, Timothy Townes, Rome; and nieces and nephews, Crystal Drought, Haley Henderson, and her husband, Josh, and their son, Jackson, Jacob Roberson, Gypsie Mathis, Drake Miller, Waylon Miller and “June Bug” Miller.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at 7 p.m. in the Griffin Memorial Chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Rickey Studdard and the Rev. J. C. Oakes officiating. The Honor Guard of the Shanklin-Attaway Post No. 5 of the American Legion will provide military rites following the memorial service.
The family will receive friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, from 5 until 7 p.m.
