

Mrs. Stephens was born in Rome on October 25, 1931, the daughter of the late Zim Turner and Nellie Henderson Turner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven brothers, Herman Turner, P. J. Turner, Ralph Turner, Troupe Turner, Hubert Turner, Zim Turner and Bobby Turner.
Mrs. Stephens served as the financial secretary at the YMCA for 32 years, and then worked in the Alumni Office at Shorter College for 10 years. She was a member of the Second Avenue Baptist Church, serving in numerous capacities as director of the 3rd and 4th Grade Department, choir member, Fellowship Sunday School Class member and also as a member of the Bereavement Committee.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Joseph Rufus Stephens, to whom she was married December 17, 1949; one daughter, Alice Stephens Pulliam, Augusta; two granddaughters, Mary Alice Pulliam and Carrie Elizabeth Pulliam, Augusta; one sister, Sara Cochran, Rome; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 9, 2015, at 2 p.m. at the Second Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Monty Stallins and Dr. J. Andrew Menger officiating. Interment was in the Floyd Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Allen Turner, Charles Turner, Greg Turner, Mark Turner, Steve Turner, Sandy Turner, Ricky Turner, Barry Turner and Billy Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class.
The family received friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home on Sunday, March 8, 2015, from 5 until 7 p.m.
