
Miss Constance “Connie” Hortense Cagle, age 90, Rome, GA, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, January 5, 2011, at Summit Health Rehabilitation Center. Connie was born in Rome, Georgia, the youngest child of George and Minnie Hood Cagle; however she spent her early years in Atlanta, GA and Palatka, FL.
After graduating from Decatur High School, Connie moved back to Rome where she attended the Carroll-Lynn School of Business. Connie worked with a floral wholesale company and then began a long career in the insurance industry, working for many years with the Jefferson-Pilot Insurance Company.
In the late 1960s Connie had the distinction of becoming Rome’s first female car salesperson, working at Julian Harrison Ford. In retirement Connie continued to use her ability as a great salesperson. She became involved in selling treasures at the Smart Shop Flea Market.
“Aunt Connie” is fondly remembered by her great nieces, Carol Hatch, Rome GA and Leigh Kosater, Braselton, GA and her great nephew, Perry Bowen, Cumming, GA as the “fun” great aunt. She spent many afternoons taking them on adventures around Rome (including many trips to Twin Kiss for ice cream) and for her joy in making every Christmas celebration the most special one ever for all the generations of her family.
Miss Cagle was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rome and the Daniel Sunday School Class for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as brothers, Virgil Cagle, Harold Cagle, George Cagle, and James E. Cagle and sisters Elizabeth Cagle, Evelyn Cagle, Fritz Finch, and Gladys Sumner. She is survived by her nephew, James Cagle, Charleston, West Virginia and other nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 8, 2011, at 1 p.m. at the chapel of the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Davies officiating. The family will receive friends in the chapel from 12 noon until 1 p.m. Interment will be in the Westview Cemetery, Atlanta.
