
Mrs. Eckhoff was born in Chambersburg, IL on November 12, 1921, daughter of the late Virgil Pool and Helen Metz Pool. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Richard (Dick) Eckhoff, in September of 2002 and brother, Dean Pool, in March 2012.
Mrs. Eckhoff had been a resident of Rome, GA since 2005, moving to be near her son Steven, from her daughter Ann’s home in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, where she had lived since her husband’s passing. She spent her previous years in Illinois.
Mrs. Eckhoff graduated from Chambersburg Community High School in 1941 and was a member of the Class of 1948 at the now Western Illinois University, where she majored in commerce and pursued her degree in teaching. In later years she worked at Perry Memorial Hospital with the housekeeping department, earning awards for her dedicated service. She was also a homemaker and a faithful member of the Dover Congregational Church, Dover Illinois, since her marriage in 1949, where she was a member of several Sunday School classes over the years and The Women’s Bible Study Group.
She loved her church, music, fishing and boating at the Lake of the Ozarks. Most of all she loved her family and friends. The Eckhoff’s home was always open and the frequent gathering place for family reunions. Everyone will remember her as always being happy, having a smile and willing to help.
Survivors include one daughter, Ann Johnson and husband Bill, Eden Prairie, MN, two sons, Steven Eckhoff and wife Joan, Rome, GA and Edward Eckhoff, Boulder, CO, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Also surviving are one sister, Virginia Robinson, Charleston S.C, five brothers, Virgil Pool and wife Elise, Winchester, VA, Edwin Burke Pool, West Franklin, IL, Lyle Pool, Griggsville, IL Galen Pool, O’Fallon, IL, Henry Pool and wife Doris, Jacksonville, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 6, 2012, at Dover Bible Church, Dover IL. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary with Mrs. Eckhoff’s son-in-law, Dr. William Johnson officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Bloom Cemetery in Tiskilwa, IL.
For those who wish to do so, the children suggest memorials to either the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Dover Bible Church, Dover, IL, formerly known as Dover Congregational Church.
