He is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Gina Matthis Hicks; Daughters, Karlee A, Hicks (Aaron Morris) of Seattle, WA; Kara J. Griggs (Jason Griggs) of Rome; 2 Grandsons, Benjamin Hicks-Morris, Seattle, WA, and William Murphy Griggs, Rome. A Sister, Patricia Brewer (Bobby) of Rome; and one Brother, David Hicks (Lynne) of Lindale, as well as several nieces and nephews survive. He was preceded in death by his Parents, John C. Hicks and Opal Bagley Hicks.
Cal was a 1969 graduate of West Rome High School, and received his Bachelors, and Master’s degree in Business Management from Shorter College. He retired from the Rome/Floyd County Building Inspection Department after 38 years. In addition to his work there, he enjoyed teaching as an Adjunct Professor at Shorter College where he taught in the School of Professional Studies. He was a member of Garden Lakes Baptist Church where he had taught a Bible Study class, and also was a member of The Rome-Noon Optimist Club.
Cal enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and many friends. He enjoyed entertaining friends with his “joke of the day”, watching the Georgia Bulldogs during football season, cooking, and communicating with his friends on social media. However, his pride and joy were his family-especially his Grandsons, whom he loved very much.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to The Open Door Home in Rome, or a church or charity organization of your choice.
A memorial service for Mr. Hicks will be held Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Garden Lakes Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 A.M. until the funeral hour.
