Evelyn Lavonia Land

Mrs. Land was born in Rome, GA. November 22, 1928, daughter of the late Homer Smith and Annie Mae Savage Smith. She was a homemaker, a member of Friendship Baptist Church where she was a former teacher of the Ready Sunday School Class for many years. She was also a member of the WMU, and the Sr. Saints Citizens group of Friendship Baptist as well. When her health allowed her she loved to travel, and go on cruises with a group from her church and family. Her family even said she got very adventurous one time and went white water rafting down the Colorado River. More than anything, she loved being with her children, grandchildren and her entire family. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Mr. J.B. Land on October 21, 1986 to whom she was married on April 26, 1951 for 35 years. Survivors include one son; Brian Land and his wife Diane of Rome, one daughter; Kathy Hewitt and her husband Tom of Pittsburg, PA, grandchildren; Jennifer Quisenberry and her husband Carlo, Jeremy Land and his wife Tara, Josh Land, Sean Hewitt and his wife Sue, great grandchildren; Emma Quisenberry, Caralena Quisenberry, Ryan Hewitt, and Lily Hewitt. Numerous other family members also survive.

Services for Mrs. Land were conducted Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at 12:30 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church, Rome, with Dr. Rodger Whorton and Rev. Ken Hinckley officiating. The family received friends Tuesday night October 23, 2012 at Daniel’s Funeral Home from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

The deacons of Friendship Baptist Church were asked to serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to the Sr. Saints Citizens Group of Friendship Baptist Church 2293 Calhoun Rd. N.E. Rome, Ga. 30161.
