Mrs. Hardin was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil E. Hardin; parents William Turner Hedden and Bertha “Maw” Franklin Hedden; brothers Floyd, Skib, Riley, and Coker Hedden; sister Nancy Hedden Haney; several infant siblings; brothers-in-law Leon Hardin and JT Dobbins and their wives Jo Hardin and Charlsie Dobbins; and sister-in-law Gladys Hedden. She was also preceded in death by her infant son Richard Samuel Hardin and son-in-law Maurice Delevie.
Lovingly known by everyone as “Granny,” she was born February 1, 1926 in Dalton, Georgia. She worked with her family in cotton fields and sharecropping. After marrying Cecil, she was a homemaker who enjoyed working in the garden and canning. She babysat many children over the years and was a caretaker to Robert “Bob” Warren until her own health began to decline. She also enjoyed cooking, her many Pomeranians, and spending time with her family and two very special friends, Janie King and Judy Goss. Despite her lack of formal education, her granddaughters Lindsay and Niki helped her to pass her license exam when she was well into her 60s. Until the very end, she never stopped worrying about the family or lost her sense of humor.
Granny is survived by her brother John Hedden and his wife Francis; sons Raymond, Steve, and Jim Hardin; daughter Jeannie Hardin Delevie; daughters-in-law Annette, Dianne, and Edna Hardin; granddaughters Tracy Hardin Thacker, Niki Delevie Hudgins, Lindsay Hardin, and Holly Hardin; great grandchildren Pike and Jacoby Delevie; and grandson-in-law Bobby Shane Hudgins. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Randy (Sandra) and Rodney (LaSondra) Hedden, Patty (Ray) McDaniel, Royce (Glenn) Adams, and Barbara Gentry, Chuck (Janet) Hedden – and that is just to name a few of her very large family!
Many special thanks to employees of Life Choice Hospice including Granny’s bath nurses Brandi, Stephanie, and Renee; nurses Chris and Katie, and Pastor Jennifer. Also special thanks to Floyd Medical Center’s Palliative Care including Dr. Harbin, Susan Stovall, Sue Colston, and Dr. Dub; to Heyman Hospice, and 5 West nurses Robyn and Dana and all the support staff. You all touched our family and took such good care of Granny, and we can never repay you for that.
The family will accept flowers or donations can be made to Life Choice or Heyman Hospice.
Receiving of friends was Saturday August 8, 2015 at Daniel’s Funeral Home from 2 – 3 pm with services at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Daniel's Funeral Home officiated by Reverend Bobby Stephens and Reverend David McKenzie of Beech Creek United Methodist Church. Granny did not want to be buried, so she will be cremated and her ashes scattered at a later date.
