Glenn Ray Adams, a lifetime resident of Rome, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2020 at the age of 69. Glenn was born March 5, 1951, in Rome, Georgia to the late Marvin “Sonny” Adams and Gloria Fricks Adams of Rome.
At a very young age Glenn became interested in learning how to play drums which became his passion. In high school he joined a group of talented young men and formed the band known as “Jaywalker and the Pedestrians.” The local Rome band composed of singer, Mike Kizziah, saxophone player, Don Connell, bass guitarist, Johnny Ware, lead guitarist, Decky Smith, Mike Baird, and John Baird played at music venues across North Georgia. The band even had the opportunity to play as the opening act for an English group that later became famous as “The Animals.” “Jay Walker and the Pedestrians” continued to make appearances through the years at special events and festivals. One that always held a special place in his heart was “The Fire Ant Festival” which was held in Statesboro, Georgia every year and hosted by Don and Connie Connell.
In 1969 Glenn graduated from East Rome High School and attended Dalton Junior College. In 1975 he began to work for Trend Mills of Rome as a Production Planner. He proposed to his high school sweetheart who became Mrs. Vivian Sanchez Adams on September 18, 1972. Several years later the Adams family became owners of Deano’s Pizza on Dean Street in East Rome where families came to enjoy pizzas and other Italian specialties. On March 23, 1977 the light of his life, his daughter, Niki Adams was born. In most recent years, Glenn was able to share many trips with his daughter to places such as Montana and Cabo where he shared new experiences like snowboarding, cross country skiing, deep sea fishing and partaking in his favorite spirits of bourbon and tequila.
Although the pizza business was time consuming Glenn made the best of his time off by spending it with his family including his extended family. Family vacations to Daytona Beach and weekends at the family lake house at Allatoona Lake were spent with parents, grandparents Papa Harry and Mama Nona , Uncle Harry and Betty Fricks, and cousins including Tommy and Gina Fricks, Donny and Cheryl Godfrey, Jenny and Bruce Holdbrooks, Gary and Cindy Fricks, and the late Mike Horton
After selling Deano’s Pizza Glenn worked at Sam’s Wholesale. This job allowed him to travel across North Georgia and Alabama meeting interesting people and enjoying his work with fellow Sam’s store employees.
One of Glenn’s favorite activities was riding motorcycles. His love of motorcycles began at a young age as he learned to ride from his father, Sonny. Throughout the years Glenn enjoyed riding around the northwest Georgia area. Sometimes including good friend and neighbor, Chris Adams. One bike he cherished was a Honda that he took over from his cousin Tommy Fricks. People may also have seen him riding his beloved blue Triumph motorcycle around Rome.
Glenn was an animal lover and protector. The family had many pets throughout the years from cats and dogs to even birds. Buddy, his dachshund, gave his family much joy with some of his annoying habits like playing with plastic bottles. The newest member of his family, Birdie, a red-headed goldendoodle, endears the hearts of everyone with her puppy antics. Knowing his great love for animals in lieu of flowers, his family would appreciate donations to Claws for Paws.
One might say that Glenn Ray Adams had a blessed life with great family and friend relationships and an overall happy life…he was a good man, husband, father, and friend what more could anyone want to be.
