
Mr. Braden was born in Rome on March 3, 1926, the son of the late Farris Grady Braden and Rosa Poarch Braden. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Braden, and a sister, Sara Frances Braden.
Mr. Braden grew up in Rome, went to Model High School and attended North Georgia College. He served in the Marines during World War II on Iwo Jima. He was employed by Burlington Mills for 36 years, was an active member of the Second Avenue United Methodist Church and was a member of the Marine Corps League. He loved antiquing, restoring furniture, playing golf and raising cattle.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Erma Holmes Braden, to whom he was married June 6, 1954; four daughters, Sherry Teeter (Steve), Anchorage, Alaska, Lauri Penton (Kelly) Freeport, FL, Lori Waters (Ray), Calhoun, and Amy Clark (Jeff), Rome; grandchildren, Jamey Waters, Lisa Waters, Lance Penton, Shannon Gotta, Braden Clark, Brooke Clarke, Sean Teeter and Seth Teeter; great grandchildren, Logan Waters, Bailey Waters, Bryce Waters, Mason Waters, Brinton Silvers, Chase Penton, Cole Penton, Carson Penton, Bryce Gotta, Braden Gotta, Benjamin Gotta and Laine Clark; and a niece.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 21, 2015, at 1 p.m. at the Griffin Memorial Chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Beth Sanders officiating. Interment followed in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Honor Guard of the Shanklin-Attaway Post No. 5, American Legion, in charge of military rites. Grandchildren served as pallbearers and members of the Marine Corps League served as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home on Saturday, February 21, 2015, from 11:30 until 1 p.m.
