Dr. Hall was born in Anniston, AL December 9, 1934. He was the son of the late Loren Dale Hall and Lessie Pearl McCrelles Hall. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife Mrs. Thelma Ruth Hall who passed away on April 5, 2003.
Dr. Hall received his bachelor’s degree from Auburn University, his Master’s degree from the University of Alabama and his PhD from Emory University. He worked as an English professor at Shorter College for nearly fifty years. He loved canoeing, fishing, camping, traveling, photography and writing poetry and short stories. For a time, he worked part time as a freelance fishing editor for Brown’s Guide to Georgia and he was also a river guide for canoeists. His greatest love was the “wilderness” of nature. His dissertation topic and the most popular class he taught at Shorter College was called; “The Wilderness and the American Mind.” He was fluent in German and loved spending time in Germany and Austria, although he was a world traveler who visited countries all around the globe. He was a caring and compassionate professor, greatly loved by students throughout the years. More so than his brilliant mind, we will all miss his sweet, endearing heart and the kind, patient and generous way he shared his love with us. Dr. Hall will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include one son, Loren Glenn Hall of Rome; one daughter, Laura Marie Hall Paxton of Eugene, Oregon; one sister, Ann Marie Cooper; and one brother, Phillip Rowe Hall.
The family received friends Tuesday evening July 28, 2015 at Daniel’s Funeral Home from 6 until 8 p.m. A memorial service for Dr. Hall was held Wednesday morning July 29, 2015 at 11am at First Baptist Church with Dr. Floyd Roebuck officiating.
