Louise P. Riley died of natural causes at Harborview Rome where she has been a resident since December 2021. A native and longtime resident of Rome and Floyd County, Louise left Rome to join the US Air Force where she met and married John F. Kerkhof, Jr. on September 12, 1953. They returned to Rome in 1963 where she was active in the community. She enjoyed Rome Little Theater productions and was active in the Woman’s Auxiliary of the Elks Club, supporting the Aidmore Hospital in Atlanta. Following John’s death in 1972, Louise married Wesley A. Riley in November 1974. She was an avid golfer and active member of Callier Springs Country Club. Louise became a hairdresser and operated her own shop in East Rome for many years.
Louise was preceded in death by both husbands, John F. Kerkhof, Jr. on March 16, 1972 and Wesley A. Riley on October 30, 2019, sisters Leila Bryant and Erma Garmin, brothers Barnwell, Ebling, Leo and William Pass, and grandson SSGT Brett Kerkhof. She is survived by two sons from her marriage to John, Stephen and Lynn Kerkhof of Huntsville, Alabama and Michael and Sue Kerkhof of Debary, Florida. She has seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is survived by one sister, Betty Harris of Rome, Georgia along with a nephew, six nieces and many great-nephews and great-nieces.
Louise chose to be cremated and requested that her ashes be spread near the place that she grew up on Horseleg Creek Rd. There will not be a funeral service. The family will receive friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home, 901 E. 2nd Ave., Rome, Georgia from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday June 22, 2022.
