Mary Ann Watson

Mary Ann was born in Quitman, GA on Ben-Bow Dairy Farm December 14, 1933. She was the elder daughter of the late Paul Hansel Bennet and May Bec Bowman Bennet. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Ed Watson.

Mary Ann graduated from Shorter College with a B.A. in Psychology in 1954. She married the love of her life, Ed Watson, October 23, 1954. She earned her Master’s Degree in Psychology from West Georgia College, and she was a licensed marriage and family counselor practicing for years in Rome. In addition, she developed many Employee Assistance Programs for local businesses. Mary Ann was also an accomplished pianist and organist and enriched the lives of so many with this gift throughout her life as well.

Survivors include her three favorite children, Lee (Allison) Watson, Rome; Becky (Chris) Stansell, Rome; and Elizabeth (Hank) Alford, Columbia, S.C. One sister, Jane (Mac) McLane, 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 1 niece, 2 nephews, 2 great nieces and 1 great nephew.

Our mamma spent her whole life devoted to helping others wherever she found them. With her arms outstretched and palms upward she always asked, “What can I do for you?” She truly loved everyone.

A graveside service will be conducted Friday, October 29, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Rome, GA behind the fairgrounds.

In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to: First Presbyterian Church 101 East 3rd Avenue Rome, GA 30161; Alzheimer’s Association 225 N. Michigan Avenue Floor 17 Chicago, IL 60601 or to Heyman Hospice 420 East 2nd Avenue Rome, GA. 30161.

The family would like to especially acknowledge Ms. Tammy Brock, Mrs. Summer McBurnett, Ms. Connie Bonds and our Heyman Hospice staff for their love, care and devotion to our mamma.

We all take great comfort as our parents, “M.A. and Big Ed”, were reunited on what would have been their 67th wedding anniversary.
