
Mr. Harvey was born in Rome on June 26, 1932 to the late R. Donald Harvey, Sr. and Lila Willingham Harvey.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia Dunwoody Harvey. He was predeceased by his daughter, Lila Lee Harvey Land and is also survived by a daughter, Patricia Wright Harvey, Esq. of Asheville, North Carolina, and a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. R. Donald Harvey, III, and Dr. Christine L. Kempton, of Avondale Estates, Georgia, and three grandsons, Clark Louis Land, Robert Donald Harvey, IV, and Parker Kempton Harvey. His is also predeceased by his sister, Lucy Harvey Johnson and Thomas Willingham Harvey.
He graduated from Cooper Hall and Darlington School, held a postgraduate degree from Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana and received a Bachelor of Science in textile engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1954, where he was a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean Conflict. After his military service, he began his life-long career in the textile industry ending with a long tenure with Burlington Industries in Rome, Asheboro, North Carolina and Tralee, Ireland. He was a communicant at St. Peter's Episcopal Church of Rome. One of his greatest joys was sailing, which included building his own sailboat and he was an avid bridge player who played weekly at the Etowah Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Handicapped Accessibility Fund, 101 E. Fourth Ave., Rome, Georgia, 30161.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2011, at the chapel of Daniel's Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. James K. Yeary officiating. Interment was in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Edgar D. Johnson, Jr., D. Harvey Johnson, Dr. Daniel D. Pate, Richard L. Dunwoody, Thomas W. Harvey, Jr., John Westmoreland, and Dennison H. Harvey.
The family received friends at the residence, 16 Pine Valley Rd., following the service on Saturday.
