
Beloved Robert Friste Vogt, Sr. (Bob), age 95, passed away May 17, 2016. He was born April 28, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of DeFriste John Vogt and Ruby Mae Weaver Vogt. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Shirley J. Vogt and his wife Diane Bostic Vogt.
Bob is survived by his son, Dr. Robert F. Vogt, Jr., his daughter Denise (DeDe) and his wife Carol.
Bob and Carol were married in 1955 and moved to Rome when Bob accepted the position of Marketing Manager at Rome Cable TV. He retired in 1989.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Coast Guard as a Warrant Officer Radio Operator.
He was a member of Second Avenue United Methodist Church where he served on numerous committees and was also past president/treasurer of the Men’s Club.
Bob was also a member and past president of the Rome Toastmaster Club, a member of Rome Action Ministries where he taught the GED program at Floyd County Jail and a member of the Christmas in Rome parade committee. He was an avid antique car enthusiast, was the owner of a 1954 Hudson and was a member of the Dixie Chapter of the Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Club.
Bob was cremated according to his wishes and there will be a memorial service at Second Avenue United Methodist Church in Rome on Sunday, May 29, 2016 at 3:00 pm. with reception to follow. The Reverend Beth Sanders will be officiating.
