
Vivian D. Strain, age 87, passed away peacefully at her home after an extended illness on Saturday, October 1, 2016. She was born in Floyd County, Georgia, on August 26, 1929, daughter of the late Harper H. Davis and Lucille D. Davis of Texas Valley, Georgia. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Edgar LeRoy Strain. She is survived by a son, David L Strain, Rome, Georgia, and a sister, Doris D. Schmick, Pompano Beach, Florida.
Mrs. Strain was a graduate of Rome High School and received her undergraduate degree in Biology from Shorter College. She later earned a Master's Degree in Education and her Sixth Year Certificate in Library Science from the University of Georgia. She was employed for over 35 years by the Rome City School System, and was compassionately devoted to the success of her students.
Mrs. Strain was actively involved in Delta Kappa Gamma, the Floyd Medical Auxiliary, the Spade and Trowel Garden Club, and the Gladiator Club at East Rome High School. She was a member of the University of Georgia Alumni Association and an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves.
She was a member of the Rome First Baptist Church, where she belonged to the Friendship Bible Study Class, and served for a term as Church Librarian.
A memorial service for Vivian D. Strain was held on Friday, October 7, 2016 beginning at 10:30am at the Chapel of the Rome First Baptist Church. Visitation immediately followed the service. Members of the Friendship Class will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. A private interment was held at the family plot in East View Cemetery in Rome, Georgia.
