
Mr. Willis was born in Floyd County August 11, 1923, son of the late Ruben Mulkey Willis and Hattie Ann Ellenburg Willis. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Evelyn Reynolds Willis and one brother; Harlan Willis.
Mr. Willis was a Navy veteran of WWII. He was a skilled worker and craftsman, a builder and contractor, and he taught Coosa Valley Technical School now known as Georgia Northwestern Technical College from 1977 to 1987. He served on mission assignments with First Baptist Church, and worked on the Morning Star Youth Estate Center in Darien, GA. He served at Habitat for Humanity, Rome, for 25 years building and supervising more that 36 houses. He also served as Sunday School Secretary at First Baptist Church for 17 years. He was a lifetime gardener, and he enjoyed sharing and giving away much of what he produced and canned. He was a great cook, a collector, and he loved restoring antique tractors. He will be greatly missed by all his friends and family.
Survivors include two nieces; Myra Hargrove and her husband Art, Peggy Reynolds and one nephew; David H. Willis and his wife Peggy.
Services for Mr. Willis will be conducted Saturday March 17, 2012 in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church at 10:30 A.M. with Dr. Joel Snider, Dr. Floyd Roebuck and Rev. Bruce Day officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens. Those serving as pallbearers are: John Lowery, Art Greenberg, Winfield Myers, Bryant Henry, Cleve Jackson, Charles Jackson, Marty Willis and Art Hargrove IV. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to: Habitat for Humanity, Rome, GA., Morning Star Youth Estate Center in Darien, GA, or the First Baptist Church of Rome. The family received friends Friday evening at Daniel’s Funeral Home.
