William Bobby Bob Southard

Mr. Southard was born in Flowery Branch, GA, on April 13, 1928, son of the late William Hoke Southard and Amy Ester Lucky Southard. True to his nature as a humble and sweet man, Bobby is remembered as a good older brother to his younger sister and brother, taking care of them as they were growing up. He was a self-taught musician and enjoyed playing his harmonica and fiddle. Mr. Southard was fortunate in his life to marry twice. His first wife, Eva Whaley Southard, and he married on July 23, 1967. They were blessed with a daughter, Amy. Throughout his life, Bobby has always been a caregiver and this held true to form when, Eva became ill and then passed in January of 1987. He married Pauline Cowart Southard in September of 1988 and she preceded him in death in April 2007. Prior to retirement in 1990, Bobby was an operator of a creeler with Marglen Carpet Industry. Mr. Southard stayed active by participating in the “Twinges in the Hinges” class at the YMCA, camping, biking and basically just being outside. In addition to music, his interests were extended to woodworking and fishing. Bobby was also an avid gardener and enjoyed watching his daughter work in her flower garden. Mr. Southard enjoyed spending time with his family the most. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and prior to his illness attended the Church at Northside.

Mr. Southard is survived by his daughter, Amy Patterson and husband, Bryan of Rome; a step-son, Paul Kevin Baldwin of Biloxi, MS; three grandsons, Ryan Patterson, Will Patterson and Sam Patterson; a brother, Harold Southard and wife, Mildred of Rome; and a sister, Linda Hobgood also of Rome.

Funeral services were held on Friday, September 6, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the Griffin Memorial Chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home with Pastor Phil Wade officiating. Interment followed in the East View Cemetery.

The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Randy Patterson, Ryan Patterson, Will Patterson, Sam Patterson, Paul Baldwin and Bryan Patterson

The family received friends on Friday, September 6, 2013 at Daniel’s Funeral Home from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM.
