Passed away peacefully on 17-May-2024 after a brief illness. Predeceased by her husband Renato (2013) and brother Jim De Marco (2014), she is survived by her sister Glori De Marco, of Fanna, PN, Italy.
Mary was a devoted Mamma to Fabio (the late Marian Burke), Claudio (Elizabeth Glenney), Laura (Michel Bissonnette) and Silvia (Tim Onyszchuk), and a cherished Nonna to her grandchildren Victoria and Matthew who visited her regularly, often with friends in tow, for generous and savoury multi-course meals. Mary completed her education in Italy as a school teacher at the Istituto Magistrale di San Pietro al Natisone near Udine before emigrating to Canada in 1951. Once her children were independent enough, she taught for several years at Rosemere Catholic Elementary and later provided expert private cooking lessons and Italian language classes.
Mary was a long-time contributor to many causes in the Rosemere, QC community, including Meals on Wheels, Rosemere Volunteer Services and the Rosemere Public Library. Anyone attending the Holy Cross Church Bazaar will remember the line-ups for her soups!
As a perennial role model, she was a frequent walker and cyclist in her neighbourhood long before it became fashionable. Her abundant vegetable garden and extensive floral landscaping were the envy of many. She will be dearly missed especially for her generous hospitality, her humour, her treasure trove of stories and anecdotes, her caring and empathy, and endless wisdom.
Cremation has taken place; interment of the ashes, adjacent to her husband’s, will take place in Fanna, Italy at a later date.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 14:00 on 14-September-2024 at
Église Ste.Françoise-Cabrini
210, rue de l’Église
Rosemère, QC J7A 2X2
