in Paterson, New Jersey. The daughter of Joseph Francis
and Olive Dorothy Dunkerley. She was the 2nd of 6 kids
with an older sister Judith, 2 younger sisters, Barbara and
Katherine and 2 younger brothers, Joseph and James.
She grew up in Palmdale and Redondo Beach, California.
She knew since a 2nd grader that she wanted to be a nurse.
She was the only one of her siblings to attend college. She
got her nursing degree from the County Hospital in
Los Angeles, which is now part of USC. In 1989 she
completed her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from CSU
Sacramento, then went on to work on her Masters in Nursing.
She worked at several different hospitals in the LA area
before moving to Orangevale in 1979 when she started
working at Roseville Community Hospital. That hospital
became what is now Sutter Roseville. She retired from Sutter
8 years ago with 27 years of service. While at Sutter, she
was the manager of Telemetry as well as ICU. Dorothy
married William Harvey Hoffman on February 15, 1964, they
recently celebrated 51 years of marriage. They were engaged
after only 6 weeks of dating. Bill and Dorothy have two
daughters. Barbara Jeanne Rhoades born in Hawthorne, CA
on July 26, 1966 and Denise Olive Wilcox born in
Gardenia, CA on August 18, 1969. They lived in Torrance, CA
until 1971, then Cerritos, CA until 1979, then Orangevale, CA
until 2001 and finally settled in Rocklin. She has 3
grandchildren. Born to Barbara and Joe Rhoades: Krista Irene
born in Spokane, WA on August 14, 1995 and Kyle Nicholas
born in Carmichael, CA on August 14, 2000. Born to Denise
and Andy Wilcox: Courtney Olivia born in Roseville, CA on
July 1, 2003. She was so in love with her grandkids, and would
do anything for them. Dorothy loved the Sacramento Kings and
has gone to countless games with season tickets the past
several years. She also loved going on cruises. Her and Bill
cruised the Caribbean several times as well as through the
Panama Canal, Alaska and Hawaii. When they were younger,
Bill and Dorothy belonged to a bowling league and their
daughters could be found running around the bowling alley. She
also loved camping, Disneyland, quarter slot machines, and
bingo. She held the family together and always insisted we
spend every holiday and birthday together. We take comfort in
her last full sentence: “I’m going to Heaven and I’ll see you there.”
Rest in Peace Wife, Mom, Grandma we love you and we miss you.
