Duane "Buckshot" Hunter

Duane Leroy "Buckshot" Hunter, 93, lifelong resident of Roseville, peacefully entered into eternal rest, Monday, April 3, 2017 at his Roseville home. He was born the youngest of five children, in Roseville on September 17, 1923 to William and Minnie Hunter. Buck is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and his beloved wife of 46 years, Ruth.

He is survived by his sister, Vera Mae, his daughter Tammy (Salvador) Perez, his step sons, Allan (Tammy) Hanaway, Gary (Linnet) Hanaway, and Ben (MaryAnn) Hanaway, daughter-in-law Linda Lyons, fifteen grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, caring friends and relatives and friends.

Buck was proud to have been born and raised in the northern California town of Roseville. He attended grammar school on Vernon Street and High school at Roseville High. He gained employment with the Southern Pacific Railroad shortly after graduation. He remained a loyal and hardworking employee for 43 years only missing a total of three days and proudly boasted an accident free career.

His love for the game of baseball led him to nearly every stadium in the country. His knowledge of the game and its' players was vast and he enjoyed sharing it with friends and family.

Buck was a collector of facts and information. Gifted with great intelligence, he kept incredible notes, game stats, researched family genealogy, frequently visited libraries and was constantly growing his knowledge of historical events, landmarks, people and places. He loved to walk and would often be seen strolling the town.

Buck met his true love and the "jewel" of his life at Denny's Cafe in Roseville when Ruth Leedy served him the best burger he ever tasted. They were married in October of 1970. They shared a timeless love that spanned nearly five decades. Together they traveled the country, Ruth as the driver and Buck as the Co-Pilot. They were an extraordinary team. They visited family, baseball parks, national and historic monuments and landmarks. They both devoted their lives to church, Jesus, family and each other. They made many friends along the way in their journey together. Buck and Ruth were a testament of true love, respect, faith and admiration.

Buck was an incredible man and a blessing to his friends and family. He embodied the spirit of strength, wisdom, hard work, and loyalty.

Friends and Family are welcome to attend a viewing, Wednesday, April 12, 2017 from 5-8 pm at Lambert Funeral Home, 400 Douglas Blvd, Roseville, California 95678. Funeral Services to Honor Buck will commence Thursday, April 13, 2017 at 11:00 am at Lambert Funeral Home
