Edgar Byers Vane, 79, of Roseville, CA passed away on June 19, 2012 after courageously living 13 years following a stroke. A hero to us all, as he never complained of the trial he was given and always had a smile on his face.
Edgar was born March 8, 1933 in Walt Hill, NB to Edgar Lewis Ashley Vane and Eliza Fayne Byers. Although born an only child, he leaves behind a legacy to his posterity who have been mentored by him to be honest, caring and giving, just as he was.
\He grew up in Encampment, WY and Berkeley, CA. He enlisted in the Korean War when he was only 17 and learned courage as a tail gunner. Following the Korean War he attended San Jose State and later became a loyal employee of State Farm Ins. In fact, it was at State Farm he met his sweet wife, Jean with whom he has been married to for 54 years. “Like a good neighbor…Edgar was there”. While working at State Farm, he enthusiastically traveled the United States setting up Disaster Offices whenever a catastrophe occurred. He brought warmth and compassion to those who had lost everything. His upbeat personality would calm the toughest of situations.
Edgar and Jean began family life in Concord, CA and when they relocated to Roseville in 1970, referred to their new home as “Camelot” and it was the perfect place to raise a family. Future adventures awaited them in other places, such as Boise, Northridge, San Diego, Moorpark, Sierraville and Lihue, until they returned to “Camelot.”
As an avid outdoorsman Edgar loved the smallest of streams, all lakes and ultimately life on a sandy beach when they retired to Kauai. He was a faithful husband, an amazing father, grandfather, teacher and friend.
Edgar is survived by his wife, Jean and 3 children and their families: Ron and Dana Call (Cameron, Spencer, Madison & Tanner), Westlake Village, CA; Paul and Peri Chapman (Andrew, Paige, Abigail & Bradley), Granite Bay, CA and Eric and Kristin Vane (Jacob, Nicholas, Wesley & Lucas), Meridian, ID. He was the proud grandpa to a dozen grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tues, June 26, 2012 at the LDS Chapel on Estates Dr., Roseville at 11:00 a.m.
Internment will take place in Huntsville, Utah.
The family wishes to thank Julie, Vitas Hospice and Vaha for their love and support.
