

Jameson, Jr., E.W. "Bill", age 89, died unexpectedly on August 11, 2010 at his home in Roseville,California as a result of a suspected heart embolism. Bill was born on May 2, 1921 in Buffalo, New York to Everett and Julie Jameson and was the younger of 2 children.
Bill graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from Cornell University in 1943. He spent two years as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II, having traveled to Africa, and the South pacific. He received his Master's degree in Zoology from the Univeristy of Kansas in 1946 and a PhD in Zoology from Cornell Univeristy in 1948.
Bill went on to study mice in Quince, California. He then studied chiggers (on which he became a world authority) and fleas in Japan, Taiwan and Korea. As a Zoology professor at UC Davis for 40 years, he spent his time teaching, publishing and studying mice and lizards. He retired in 1988.
Bill was also an accomplished author and wrote books on subjects as diverse as Zoology, California mammals, Falconry as well as on Chinese characters. Bill was an avid Falconer and captured and kept several Hawks and Eagles over the years. Prior to his death , he was working on a new book on the evolution of North American mammals.
Bill is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sumiko Jameson, whom he met in Japan, and their two daughters, Julie Mellquist (Spouse, Peter, Granddaughter, Annika) and Michiko Jameson. He is also the father of 3 Daughters from a previous marriage, Lee Aoi Frincke, Margo Jameson and Laura Eaton and their children, Alisa, Leana, Kyle, Elaine and Diana and a Great Grandfather of Franco, born to Alisa. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 20th at 1:00 P.M. at lambert Funeral Home Chapel, 400 Douglas Blvd, Roseville, California with a Gathering to follow services at La Provence, 110 Diamond Creek Place, Roseville,CA. in Lieu of flowers, His family requests donations to the Nature Conservancy (http://www.nature.org)
