

Fred grew up in Palo Alto, CA. He joined the United States Marine Corps and served during the Korean War. He went to work for Safeway at the age of 23 and worked his way up to management. He retired after 32 years with them. Fred enjoyed watching sports, including the San Francisco 49ers, the San Francisco Giants, and the Sacramento Kings. He especially enjoyed a nice glass of wine and spending quality time with close family and friends.
Fred is survived by his brothers Bill, Jim, Norman, and Richard Gay, his sister Geri Madden, his daughters Dawn Sylvester and Jill Epperson, his grandchildren Scott Epperson, Jackie Weeks, Shawna Gay-Dalrymple, Adam Gay, Eric Epperson, Joey Weeks, Samantha Rodriguez, Jason Weeks, Nadine Vidal, Cody Vidal, and Nikki Vidal. He also is survived by two great-grandchildren, Moses Rodriguez and Annabelle Epperson.
Fred is proceeded in death by his wife, Elinor Gay, his brother Glenn Gay, his step-daughter Janet Calderwood, and his son, Mike Gay.
