Gaynor Stuckert Morgan, retired teacher and passionate Rocklin community supporter, died April 20, 2023, at the age of ninety-three-and-a-half years old. A Rocklin resident since 1931, she donated untold hours of her time and expertise to the Rocklin Historical Society, Rocklin Friends of the Library, and many other local causes.
In 1951 Gay married Alfred (Fred) Morgan and began her service to the community as a teacher in the Rocklin Elementary school district. She was a graduate of Roseville High School, Placer College, and Sacramento State (Bachelor of Education with honors). She retired after 35 years of teaching fourth grade (part of the “Big Four” group) in 1995. During that time, she served as PTA president, Blue Bird leader, Elementary School dance DJ, Rocklin Rec Board Member, District 4th grade Field Trip Coordinator and after-school theater program co-director.
One of the founding members of the Rocklin Historical Society, Gay performed roles of mentor, docent, fund raiser, board member, ombudsperson, display, and docent coordinator and was the point of contact for all public inquiries about Rocklin history. As a memoirist and storyteller, she contributed lively articles about old Rocklin life and member profiles for the RHS Quarry Quarterly Newsletter.
She organized luncheons for “Finn Ladies and Friends” a group of local people of Rocklin-Finnish (and honorary Finnish) descent that gather to visit and reconnect with their longtime Rocklin friends. She received both the Citizen of the Year Award and The Ruhkala Award because of her many volunteer accomplishments.
Gay’s life was celebrated at the Rocklin Historical Society’s annual Homecoming event on May 28, 2023. She exemplified the sincere heart and soul of the native Rocklin community with her commitment to preserving history for future generations. The city of Rocklin has lost a prominent citizen and a significant amount of its historical memory bank, and she will be missed immeasurably.
She leaves behind daughter Lisa Morgan (Mick Lancaster), son Stuart Morgan, and beloved cousin Laverne McGrath Splan. In 2015 her husband of 64 years, musician/band leader Alfred (Fred) Morgan Jr., died.
Donations in Gay’s memory can be sent to the Rocklin Historical Society, or Rocklin Friends of the Library.
