James I. Moore passed away as he lived, surrounded by friends and family on December 24, 2019 at the age of 76. He was born in Caddo Parish, LA to Sammie Lee Harden and L.B. Moore. He grew up in Richmond, CA, where he became an All-American basketball player for Richmond High School. This talent earned him a full ride scholarship to St. Mary’s College of California, making him the first in his family to attend College. While at St. Mary’s, he achieved the single-game scoring record of 43 points versus Sacramento State, a record that still stands today. The ability to rise above his circumstances and complete his Bachelor’s degree gave him a strong desire to become a mentor to many, helping other people attain success as he had. And succeed he did, starting his career at JobCorp, and then moving on to Hewlett-Packard for 35 years, where human relations work allowed him to educate others and train people all over the country. Whether it was a conversation or a meal, Jim was always there to lend an ear, or a fork. Followed by advice in a deep voice that people were compelled to listen to.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers LB Jr., Lawrence, Lorenzo, Jerry, and his sister Jeanette. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his children, Christina and Timothy, his grandson Isaac, step-grandchildren Samantha and Caleb and his brother Larry. A celebration of life will occur on Saturday, February 8th, 2020 in Springview Hall in Rocklin beginning at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in James’ name to the Sutter Health Medical Sacramento, Cancer Center.
