James Richard Scutt was born on June 10, 1930 in Virgil, New York and passed away at Sutter General Hospital in Sacramento, California on Sunday, November 25. 2018. Jim lived in Roseville, California for the past 53 years.
Jim grew up in Dryden, a town in upstate New York, with his parents Alfred and Iva Scutt. He was the first born of 7 children and attended Dryden Elementary and Dryden High School, from which he graduated in June of 1949.
He began his career as a typewrite technician until he joined the Air Force in 1950. Jim entered his service career as a Private, advanced to an Airman First Class, and finished as a Sergeant after completing four years of service. Jim was stationed at Travis AFB, California and became a water specialist. He then transferred to Mountain Home AFB, Idaho, with his new wife, Cleo, whom he married November 8, 1953. Their main worry was learning how to stay warm in the winter. Jim earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal while serving in the military during the Korean War.
Leaving the Air Force in 1954, Jim returned to the Sacramento area where his wife had relatives nearby. They planned to return to New York, but they decided to settle in Sacramento and start a family. Over the years, they moved from Sacramento to North Highlands by McClellan AFB and on to Roseville. Working for Capital Office Equipment for several years, he moved on to AB Dick Company as Service Manager, working on printing equipment for customers around the greater Sacramento area.
Jim retired from AB Dick Company in 1988. Once his wife, Cleo, also retired, they had more time to enjoy trips to Yuma, Arizona. They soon became “snowbirds” and purchased a residence in Yuma and spent their winters there. They also enjoyed camping and RVing throughout the years, purchasing various trailers, fifth-wheels, and motor homes. They enjoyed campouts with the Sunrise Sams, a Good Sam group for retired RVers.
Survived by his loving wife, Cleo, of 65 years and sister Carleen of New York, Jim is also lovingly remembered by son Mark Scutt (Pam) of Verdi, NV; daughter Sherri Quint (Al) of Citrus Heights, CA; grandchildren Jason Scutt, Amber English (Jim), Matthew Quint (Cassie), Brandon Scutt (Andrea); Emily Scutt, and great-grandchildren Russell Scutt, Ella English, Allison English, and Whitney Quint.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 3, 2018 at Lambert’s Funeral Home, 400 Douglas Blvd, Roseville CA at 1:00 pm.
