Beloved brother, father, grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully on February 20, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He just turned 91.
Robert (Bob) Foster was born in Loomis, CA on February 17, 1933, to Mary and Bruno Foster. He was the third of six children and the first child to be born on the family ranch in Loomis. He spent many years during his youth helping his mother work the family ranch after the death of his father. He graduated from Placer High School in 1951 and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 through 1957. Bob spent his working life as a machinist for Southern Pacific Railroad and Aerojet. He lived most of his life on the family ranch where he was born. He raised one daughter, Roberta (Bobbie), and was a significant part of the upbringing of his dear grandson, Jackson. Bob also cared for his mother in the final years of her life. He loved his family and would do anything for them.
Grandpa Bob, as he was referred to by many, was a kind, generous, and fun-loving person. He was the best brother, dad, grandpa, and friend that anyone could ask for. He loved the outdoors and spent many hours planting and tending to his garden after retiring. He was a very giving person and did so much to enrich the lives of others. He had a very tight bond with Roberta and Jackson. He helped Roberta dedicate a room in his home as a classroom for Jackson, who spent six years there being homeschooled by two wonderful teachers, Sandy Foster and Michelle Bull. For most of Jackson’s childhood, Bob grew a huge patch of pumpkins and hosted an annual Pumpkin Patch Party on the family ranch that featured hayrides, pinatas, and lots of fun games for the children to enjoy.
Bob was very happy during the final years of his life. He lived at home with his caregivers, Sherry Gray and Julie Jones, who showered him with love and provided him with the best care and support anyone could hope for. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Sherry and Julie for enriching Bob’s final years.
Bob was proceeded in death by his parents Mary and Bruno Foster, sister Anne Krause (Stanley), brother James Foster (Isabel), brother Frank Foster, and sister-in-law Nancy Foster.
Bob is survived by his daughter Roberta Brewer, grandson Jackson Brewer, brothers William Foster and David Foster (Diane), Roberta’s partner Jeff DeBoer (sons Seth and Christopher), several cousins, numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held on Monday, March 11th at 1:00 pm at the Newcastle Cemetery, located at 850 Taylor Road in Newcastle.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s name to A Touch of Understanding, a Granite Bay organization that provides disability awareness programs to local schools.
