Jaime (HI-MEH) Narvasa Mozo (aka “Papa”), beloved patriarch of the Mozo, Faraon, and Bertulfo extended families had a laugh that shook rooms, a smile that could light up the night, and superior taste buds that allowed him to prepare countless signature dishes. Papa embodied the Filipino-American value of “pakikisama,” getting along in harmony with relatives and community. And he instilled that value in his children and grandchildren, who cherished time spent with him on road trips, in his garden, and around his kitchen table.
In his lifetime, he contributed to Detroit’s automotive and medical industries. He had a mind for engineering, an entrepreneurial spirit and a love for the simple things in life – characteristics he brought with him from his humble beginnings in the Philippines. He enjoyed playing chess, fishing, cooking, telling jokes, and nourishing those who knew him with endless amounts of food and limitless acts of kindness. His love was unconditional. His generosity was boundless. And we are eternally grateful to have loved him.
Jaime’s soul transitioned on March 29th in hospice care at St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital. He was 77 years old. He died as he had lived, surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his spouse, Lucita, his sons Joselito, Jonathan (Becky), and Jay (Cindy), his sisters Milagros (Perfecto), Corazon (Francisco, Jr.), his niece Lora Melissa, nephew Carl Matthew, his grandchildren AJ, Joel, Ethan, Isabel, Aydin, and Greyson, and adoring nieces, nephews, Godchildren and relatives.
Jaime’s family will be taking visitors at Kaul Funeral Home of Roseville on April 5-6 from 3:00 to 8:00 with nightly prayer at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place at St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish in Roseville on Saturday, April 7 at 10:30 a.m. and Jaime’s final resting place will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
