Jennie (nee Alampi) Battaglia was also known by the names "JoAnn", "Gina", & "Giovanna". Born in Buhl Minnesota, January 19, 1922, and passed away February 16, 2020, peacefully at her home in Roseville, Michigan, at 98 years of age.
Wife of the late Domenic Battaglia, WWII United States Army Air Force Veteran. Mother of John F. Battaglia, Daughter of the late Antonio & Josephine Alampi, who emigrated from Reggio di Calabria, Italy. Sister of the late Carmelo J. Alampi, WWII United States Army Air Force Veteran, aunt to nephews; Dr. Carmen A. Alampi, Anthony P. Alampi, Anthony (Toni/Nino) V. Battaglia, the late John M. Battaglia, aunt to nieces; Dr. Rennie Alampi, Tina M. Alampi Long, spouse of John Long, Zeborah A. Alampi Fry, spouse of Greg Fry, Angie Z. (Battaglia) Mattera, spouse of Peter Mattera, brother-in-law of the late Fred (Fortunato) R. Battaglia, and Pasquale Battaglia, sister-in-law of the late Josephine Battaglia and many cousins, friends and neighbors.
Jennie graduated from Eastland High School in Roseville, Michigan with high honors and won a dictionary in a spelling bee competition. Blessed with an excellent memory and remembered everyone's birthdays. She worked as an Executive Secretary at the Carboloy Company in Warren, Michigan, manufacturer of high carbide cutting tools before her marriage. Jennie married Domenic Battaglia on Thanksgiving Day in 1947 and became a homemaker and mother raising her only son. Her husband immigrated to America from the same town in Italy as her parents when he was 16 years old.
Jennie had a "Green Thumb" and grew many varieties of flowers and plants, including roses, African violets and vegetables gardens from seedlings. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, dancing, music and riding her bicycle. Always with a positive attitude, she was devoted to her faith in God and her Catholic religion. She Liked going to church and listening to sermons on television. A wonderful wife & mother, she was very out-going and kind-hearted. People liked her and she made many friends. Her Italian heritage & traditions were important to her and she always valued being close to family and relatives.
In her later years she loved going to work on Sundays with her son to new model home projects, greeting customers and talking about the features and benefits of new construction. She loved meeting people and received letters of the highest commendation from Lambardo Home Companies for her work. Customers loved her and her friendly character and enthusiasm.
God Blessed Jennie with a long life and peaceful passing. She is missed by her family, friends and many acquaintances as well.
