

Mary Cecilia Karwowski (nee: McEwan), age 92, passed away May 30, 2016. Mary was born September 26, 1923 in Great Falls, Montana. Survived by her brother John and sisters Eileen and Mavis; children Michael (Diana), Elizabeth (David) Vultaggio, Russell (Karen), Mary (Craig) Phelan and Anne (Scott) Zyrek; grandchildren Carolyn, James, Elizabeth, Kyle, Michelle, Nolan, Eric, Gavin, James, Michael and Joshua; and great grandchildren Celeste, Dominic, Connor and Ashley. Predeceased by her parents, Charles McEwan and Elsie Burke; brother Charles J. McEwan; husband Richard M. Karwowski; son Richard M. Karwowski, Jr., grandson Joseph A. Karwowski. Graduate from Providence School of Nursing, Mary served in Cadet Nurse Corps during WWII. Mary was a woman of action and was loved by her immediate and extended family as well as many friends over the years. Her wit was legendary. She was forever the organizer for everything from family reunions to genealogical research. Mary was also an avid reader, crossword whiz and bridge player. She was a consummate sportswoman: golfer (having once shot a hole-in-one at Lochmoor during a tournament); tennis player; fisherman; and biked a portion of the Wolverine 200 on Belle Isle. Mary was an enthusiastic Detroit tiger fan and attended games into her 90’s. She was also a world traveler, having visited Europe, Asia and Africa. Among her favorite destinations was Lake Havasu, AZ. She will be so very missed by all who knew her and loved her so much. Memorial mass will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary, Our Lady Queen of Families Parish St Clement Church Site, 25252 Van Dyke, Center Line.
