I'll miss you Dad. Even though I didn't always see you...I knew you were there. You were the only dad I ever had. You were the one who taught me how to comb and untangle long hair and that was very important because I've always had long hair. You set the standard by which I regarded how to choose a husband. If he couldn't work on a car, work with electricity, build things, paint, tinker around the house and fix a motor or just about anything for that matter, he wouldn't be the right man for me...because that was what I grew up and lived with. You taught me so much throughout my life, thank you.

Pete was a great man and so loving and caring.
I remember all the fun times growing up with you on Prospect, the barbecues, going swimming, birthday parties and just having fun.  Karen’s first word was in your backyard (hot dog).  I also remember the bug in my moms ice cube in her drink and she threw it in your flowers and later found out it was fake 
I hope he meets up with my Mom and Dad and they party on.

My dad’s big brother and the firstborn son to a pair of immigrants. That was my Uncle Pete. I remember many things over the course of my relationship with him, but I will ever forget the last time I saw him. Just a couple of years ago, my wife and I were visiting Detroit and travelled to Frankenmuth especially to see Uncle Pete and my cousins whom I had not seen in many, many years. Uncle Pete had just turned 90, I think. He was smiling, joyful, and sharp as a tack. We had lunch together and I thought about how much he had known and how much he had experienced.  I thought about how he knew my Dad when they were kids and what that must’ve been like.  We had a great visit, catching up and talking for almost two hours that could’ve gone on much longer. I thought about how he looked like my grandmother and my Dad at the same time. And I was truly touched when he spoke about how my Dad and Uncle Hank went to Korea to fight, and he couldn’t go. He was too old. He cried. He wanted so badly to serve and to be there with his younger brothers. I never knew. And to this day, I remember that moment, with tears in my eyes and am thankful for a man of such conviction and of such character. I wish I had known him better. Rest In Peace, Uncle Pete. I am sure you, Dad, and Uncle Hank are building something amazing in heaven.  Your nephew, Steve.

Uncle Pete,  you will be forever in my heart.  You were a wonderful friend to my dad, often had a good story to tell and always kept the fire going for us at the cottage.
