Anne Gordon Sweat

A native of Savannah, GA, Mrs. Sweat was born on January 4, 1940 to Alice Merle Gordon and Roy Lachlison Gordon. A graduate of the University of Georgia, Mrs. Sweat taught middle school English for several years in Savannah before marrying James Reeves Sweat, Jr., of Savannah, and following him to several duty stations during his tour as a Naval Aviator. They returned to Savannah in 1970, and Mrs. Sweat spent many happy years as co-owner and teacher at Islands Preschool on Wilmington Island, GA. They attended St. John’s Episcopal Church in Savannah, where she was a docent at the Greene Meldrim House for many years. In 1999, they relocated to Roswell, GA to be closer to children and grandchildren. At the time of her passing, Mrs. Sweat and her husband, Jim, were members at St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church, Milton, GA.

Mrs. Sweat is survived by her husband, James Reeves Sweat Jr, of Roswell, GA; a daughter, Dorothy Anne Head, of Roswell, GA; a son, David Reeves Sweat, of Moseley, VA; Grandchildren, Lauren Jessica Head, of Logan, UT; Justin Reeves Sweat, of Moseley, VA: Lindsay Anne Head, of Atlanta, GA; and Matthew Thomas Sweat, of Moseley, VA; and nieces Amy Gordon Findley, of Summerville, GA and Cathy Gordon Pirtle, of Marietta, GA. She is preceded in death by her brother, Roy Lachlison Gordon, Jr. of Atlanta, GA and parents Alice Merle Gordon and Roy Lachlison Gordon, of Savannah, GA.

Mrs. Sweat will be laid to rest in Bonaventure Cemetery, in Savannah, at a time to be determined. Details will be shared soon with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please send donation to the Friends of Music at St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church, 13560 Cogburn, Road, Milton, GA 30004.
