Bettie Jean Grose was born on January 30, 1947 in Dry Branch, Georgia to the late Robert and Curlie Grose. She professed Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Gilgal Baptist Church where she faithfully served and played the piano.
To know Bettie was to be fed—both physically, emotionally and above all else, spiritually. Whether she was perfecting a family recipe in the kitchen or sharing the "good word" from the porch, to be in her presence was like a sanctuary. She believed that cooking was an act of worship, and no one ever left her table with an empty stomach or a heavy heart.
When she wasn't in the kitchen, Bettie could almost always be found with a book in her hand or a pen in her fingers. She was a lifelong learner and a gifted writer who captured the beauty of God’s grace in her journals and letters. Her nickname, "Bishop Bettie" wasn't just a title; it was a testament to her role as a spiritual lighthouse for our family and community. She led with love, corrected with grace, and spent her days praising God in everything she did. Bettie’s unwavering faith led her to publish 2 inspirational books titled, “You Can Be My Tulip” and “I am a Dreamer & Believer”.
Bettie’s spirit lives on through the family she adored and the countless lives she touched with her wisdom. She is survived by her children: Gregory (LaVetta) Denson, Dawan "Nate" Shabazz, Tamara (James) Brayboy, and Aishah Williams. Siblings: James Grose and Vivian (Charles) Grose. Grandchildren: Matisse Fry, Nathaniel Denson II, James Boxton III, Esq., Kameron Denson, Cassandra Denson, and Alexis (Adam) Denson. In addition to her parents, she joins in eternal rest with her sisters: Lois Gilbert and Hilda Washington; bother: Robert Grose; grandson: Bryce Elijah Williams Young and nephews: Wayne Gilbert, Jeffrey Thomas and Roderick Grose, where she is undoubtedly joining the heavenly choir in praise.
