Betty Jean Lunger

Betty Jean Lunger, aged 91, passed away on Saturday September 13th, 2025 in Skilled Nursing of St. George Village, Roswell, GA, amid the wonderful caregivers of St. George and family. Betty was born on November 13, 1933 to Bessie (Pearson) and Jessie Lloyd Woods in Oquawka, IL.

Betty traveled to Santa Ana, CA upon high school graduation, met her husband and love of her life, the late Robert Lunger, in Colorado Springs, CO and married in 1952. She settled in Bay City, MI, working at Michigan Bell until she had the first of four children. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for 72 years, and served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Choir Member; strengthening her faith and meeting lifelong friends.

Betty will be deeply missed by her surviving children: Michele (Dr. David) Sabourin of San Diego, CA, Mari Fielder of Medford, OR and Matthew (Kate) Lunger of Roswell, GA; her seven grandchildren: Dr. Kristine (Dr. John), Kenton (April), Jerrud, Joshua, Drew, Zachary, and Cole; four great-grandchildren: Brayden, Samantha, Rooney, and Odin; special nieces Helen Ann and Diane, as well as special soon to be granddaughters-in-law Natasha and Ragavi.

Her husband Robert F. Lunger, her eldest son Michael Woods Lunger, her parents, her niece Carol and her siblings Robert, Helen, and Marilynn predecease Betty.

It was Betty’s request to be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be planned in early Summer 2026 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Bay City, MI.
